My Goals!

These are some of the solutions I would like to advocate for as a member of the Board of Education:

  • Fight for better funding and resources for special education.

I will advocate for increased, equitable funding to ensure all students with disabilities have access to high-quality services, staffing, and classroom tools. Every student deserves the resources they need to thrive, no matter their learning style or disability.

  • Ensure teachers receive training to support all learning styles and needs.

Ongoing professional development is key. I will support teacher training that focuses on specialized instruction, neurodiversity, trauma-informed practices, and inclusive teaching strategies so educators can meet the needs of all learners, not just some.

  • Support strong, updated IEPs that involve families.

IEPs should be living documents, not static. I will work to ensure IEPs are updated regularly and developed with families, not for them, building plans that are both legally compliant and actually help the student thrive.

  • Promote inclusive classrooms where every student feels they belong.

Inclusion isn’t just about being in the same room; it’s about being respected and understood. I will push for classrooms where students with disabilities are supported, valued, and fully included.

  • Advocate for personalized learning plans tailored to individual student needs.

Every student learns differently. I will promote the use of personalized learning plans that meet students where they are and help them grow in the way that works best for them, whether that’s hands-on, visual, verbal, or through project-based learning.

  • Push for smaller class sizes and increased one-on-one support.

Students with disabilities often need more direct support. I will advocate for lower student-to-teacher ratios and increased access to aides and intervention specialists to give every student the attention they deserve.

  • Improve communication between schools and families about accommodations.

Families shouldn’t have to fight for basic information. I will advocate for clear, proactive communication so families understand their rights, available accommodations, and what support their child is receiving, and have a voice when things need to change.

  • Encourage the use of assistive technology and effective teaching methods.

Technology can be a game changer. I will promote the use of assistive devices, speech-to-text tools, audio support, and other innovations that empower students with disabilities to access curriculum and express themselves fully.

  • Back mental health services to support student well-being.

Mental health and learning go hand-in-hand. I will fight to expand school-based mental health supports, including more counselors, social workers, and wellness programs, because no student should have to struggle alone.

  • Stand firmly against discrimination and bullying of students with disabilities.

I will support strong anti-bullying policies and ensure schools actively protect students with disabilities from harassment, isolation, and bias. Every student has the right to feel safe and respected at school.

  • Involve students and families in decision-making.

The people closest to the issue must be part of the solution. I will advocate for student and family voices to be heard at every level, from IEP meetings to district policy, ensuring their lived experiences shape real change.

  • Work closely with staff to quickly address and fix gaps in support.

When something isn’t working, we can’t afford to wait. I will promote a culture of responsiveness, collaboration, and accountability, making sure staff have the tools and support they need to respond quickly and effectively to student needs.
